Senior, Electronics Materials Engineer; Onsite

What You Will Do

Perform duties within the Rockford Materials and Process Engineering Group as a specialist in failure analysis of electronic assemblies and design of electronic components and assemblies.

• Work cooperatively with engineers of varying experience levels to solve problems and drive continuous improvement.
• Perform material analyses, including failure analysis of individual components and mechanical or electrical subsystems.
• Review and approve engineering drawings for EEE components, electronic assemblies, and electronics packaging designs.
• Generate and revise specifications controlling manufacturing processes.
• Consult with Engineering Design, Procurement, and Quality operations as needed.
• Collaborate with plant sites and sub‑tier suppliers to troubleshoot fabrication, assembly, and processing issues.
• Consult with other SMEs in electronics packaging to develop robust electronic controller designs.
• Design, perform, and supervise material testing and verification testing within the lab.
• Provide technical resolution for requests from the supply chain for mature products and processes.
• Create and implement common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality.

Gain knowledge of Collins products, processes, and operating system.

• A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of five years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of three years of experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

• Experience working with metallic materials.
• Expertise in laboratory analysis of electronic components, including scanning electron microscopy and related techniques.
• Experience in manufacturing of EEE components and assemblies and troubleshooting the physical and chemical processes involved.
• Technical leadership and mentoring of staff.
• Teamwork and ability to work independently.

Salary range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD.
