Our paid Civil Engineering Internship is designed for students who want hands on experience, not just résumé lines. During the internship you will:

Work alongside engineers and project teams on active, real-world projects, getting hands on experience Apply what you’re learning in class to design, modeling, and problem-solving Gain exposure across one or more of our practice areas:
Water, Transportation, Land Development, Construction, Municipal Services, Survey Services (GIS)
You won’t be doing this alone. Every intern is:

• Paired with a new-hire buddy for day-to-day guidance
• Supported by experienced engineers who want to teach, mentor, and invest in you
• Invited to office events, networking opportunities, and team activities that help you feel like part of the firm — not “just an intern”

Depending on your team, you may:

• Assist with design and modeling using AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station, and other engineering tools
• Perform basic engineering calculations and analyses Research materials and help prepare specifications and documentation
• Collaborate with engineers and CADD technicians to develop plan sets See how projects move from concept -> design -> construction

That’s okay — many interns aren’t. Here’s a quick snapshot:

• Assist water resources engineers with stormwater, flood reduction, and stream stabilization projects Locations: IL (Aurora, McHenry, New Lenox), TX (Houston)

• Assist engineers with project tasks related to planning, design, and analysis of water and wastewater facilities. Locations: IL (Aurora), IA (Des Moines), TX (Austin), FL (Melbourne, Sarasota)

• Assist with the planning and design of roadway, highway, and intersection projects. Locations: IA (Cedar Rapids, Des Moines), IL (Aurora, New Lenox)

• Support planning and engineering for commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments. Locations: TX (Austin, Houston), FL (Sarasota)

• Gain field exposure through inspection, QA/QC, coordination, and documentation. Locations: MO (St. Louis), IA (Des Moines, Cedar Rapids)

• Enrolled in an accredited Civil, Environmental, or related Engineering program Curious, motivated, and eager to learn Comfortable with basic office software (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Familiar with, or quick to learn, CADD and engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, ArcGIS, Civil 3D and similar industry software
• Available to start between mid-May and early June 2027
