Job DescriptionWe are seeking a bilingual (English and Spanish) candidate to best serve our patient population. A $1,000 sign-on bonus is available for this position; internal candidates and rehires within the last year are ineligible.
Responsibilities- Present a friendly, approachable, professional demeanor and appearance.
- Provide accurate information and timely updates to patients and customers, addressing questions and concerns promptly.
- Use effective service recovery skills to solve problems or service breakdowns when they occur.
- Demonstrate teamwork by helping co-workers within and across departments, communicating effectively, respecting diverse opinions, and acknowledging assistance and contributions of others.
- Use organizational and unit/department resources efficiently.
- Manage work schedule efficiently, completing tasks and assignments on time.
- Contribute to opportunities and processes for continuous improvement.
- Participate in efforts to reduce costs, streamline work processes, and improve services.
- Room patients and provide direct patient care under the supervision of a physician and/or direction of an RN/LPN.
- Record medical, surgical, and family histories, medications, and vital signs, and prepare patients for office procedures.
- Explain treatment procedures to patients, reinforcing patient education regarding medication, special diet, or testing provided by the RN/LPN or physician.
- Administer injections and medications as directed by a physician.
- Perform point-of-care testing, including venipuncture, urine dips, finger sticks, strep screens, flu screens, pregnancy tests, and cultures.
- Is knowledgeable about the purpose, process, and results for tests and lab specimens frequently performed in an office setting.
- Relay normal test results to patients or read results verbatim from the physician documentation.
- Adhere to CDPG Environment of Care policies and maintain infection control standards for exam/procedure rooms.
- Participate in shared governance, committee work, and practice/department projects.
- Demonstrate the knowledge of proper identification and reporting of medical/health care errors.
- Support co-workers, volunteering pitch in, and mentor new staff.
- Communicate appropriately and clearly with all, maintaining a good working relationship within the office and other ancillary departments.
- Handle situations in a mature and professional manner.
- Prioritize and re-prioritize workflow and maintain an organized workspace.
- Engage in teamwork as a team player and a team builder.
- Meet current standards and policies for documentation, providing documentation that is timely, accurate, up to date, complete, and legible.
- Charge for all ancillary services performed.
- Participate in ongoing educational activities appropriate to the area of practice.
- Exhibit creativity and flexibility through the dynamics of change.
- Appropriately utilize the functionality of the medical record and practice management systems within their job responsibilities.
- Stay informed of medical record and practice management system updates and implement into daily work.
- Utilize online resources efficiently, including Outlook, Corridors, and Team Sites.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Required:
- Two or more years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant in a physician office setting, or completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program.
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 2 or more years of experience as a Medical Assistant or completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program.
- American Heart Association accredited Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
- Completion of a phlebotomy class or equivalent experience. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to type proficiently and accurately. Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing. Ability to assess and determine situations requiring an interpreter and use interpreter services effectively.
- New graduates/hires must obtain certification/registration within one year from hire date. Accepted certifications include:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through AAMA.
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through AMT or NCMA through NCCT.
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through NHA.
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) through NAHP.
- Active RN or LPN license in Illinois in lieu of CMA certification.
- Preferred:
- Associate degree in Medical Assisting.
- Second language proficiency.
