JOB SUMMARY UNION (SEIU 73)

The Ultrasound Technician (OB/GYN/Sonographer) performs services related to patients undergoing general and arterial ultrasound examination. Duties include operating Ultrasound equipment as well as performing all types of Ultrasound examinations on patients. Under general supervision, is responsible for performing sonographic images on anatomical portions of the human body by operating ultrasound equipment. Performs highly technical ultrasound procedures involving specialized knowledge of anatomy and pathology as it pertains to Obstetrical and Gynecology patients and participates in pregnancy terminations.

Processes and critiques sonographic images, practice infection control and adhere to safety measures.

• Communicates with medical staff, nursing personnel, outpatient registration and others, as required relating to patient matters.
• Obtains and records an accurate patient history
• Performs ultrasound procedures utilizing mobile and stationary ultrasound equipment.
• Analyzes technical information.
• Uses independent judgment in recognizing the need to extend the scope of the procedure according to the diagnostic findings.
• Provides quality patient care.
• Collaborates with members of the healthcare team.
• Prepares patient for ultrasound, positions and assists patient at end of procedures.
• Collaborates with Maternal Fetal Medicine Division Chair concerning procedural issues.
• Adjusts equipment, determines proper gain, brightness and desired images, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patients and selects proper firm.
• Communicates with Maternal Fetal Division Chair relating to quality control, equipment calibration, procedural changes and work schedule.
• Prepares room, equipment, medicine and materials as needed for patients.
• Cleans and disinfects equipment per Infection Control policies.
• Transmits images via PACS system.
• Protects all patient health information (oral or recorded in any form) that is obtained, handled, learned, heard or viewed in the course of work or association with the hospital.
• Performs other duties as instructed.

• Completion of approved training program in diagnostic ultrasound program, is required. (Official transcripts are required at time of interview)
• One (1) year of full-time work experience with varied imaging in diagnostic ultrasound, is required
• Must have met one of the following criteria, is required: (Must provide certification at time of interview)
• ARDMS certified
• ARDMS certified with OBGYN Board Certification
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) trained with certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), is required. (Must provide certification at time of interview)
• Training, experience, and competent in the practice of diagnostic medical ultrasonographic exams, including Doppler and color imaging as well as thorough knowledge of anatomical structures and basic body physiology, is required.
