The Tone:
This is a full-time, salaried training program at Met Life, located in Aurora, IL or Kansas City, MO. As the nation’s largest non-medical carrier of group insurance, Met Life impacts over 55,000 customers and covers more than 50 million employees and family members. This role is a foundational opportunity within the Group Benefits team, designed to train recent college graduates to deliver innovative benefit solutions and support customers when they need it most.
You will gain the skills to transition into an Underwriter role, providing essential support for Met Life’s employer group business.

- Team:
Group Benefits, leading to Regional & Small Business Solutions - Mission:
Train early talent to provide underwriting support for new and existing employer group business. - Tech Stack:
Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Approved AI tools
- Train:
Successfully complete a 3-month Underwriting Academy Program, integrating structured and on-the-job learning. - Collaborate:
Work closely with a seasoned underwriting professional to understand Met Life’s products, processes, systems, and strategies. - Develop:
Build core competencies in critical thinking, analysis, attention to detail, problem-solving, and effective communication. - Understand:
Gain an in-depth understanding of the employee benefits industry, group product risk assessment, and product pricing. - Support:
Participate in audits and strategic planning processes, preparing to provide underwriting support for regional group benefits business.
- Background:
Bachelor’s degree; an early talent opportunity for recent college graduates with limited related work experience. - Experience:
Functional knowledge of Microsoft products such as Excel and Word; working knowledge of AI capabilities with the ability to evaluate, validate, and appropriately apply AI-generated outputs with guidance. - Skills:
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and listening); strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities; high level of organizational skill and the ability to prioritize and multi-task; ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; strong customer service skills. - Bonus: 1+ years of underwriting experience or related course work; college degree in Math, Business, Finance, or the Financial Services industry; working knowledge of insurance and underwriting.
