Rush Copley Medical Center, in Aurora, Illinois, part of the Rush University System for Health network of hospitals invites applications for the position of General Gastroenterology Advanced Practice Provider.
These providers will be trained in a subspecialty of Gastroenterology including Interventional, pancreas, high risk cancer screening, and motility along with seeing a panel of general GI patients.
Under supervision and in collaboration with board-certified gastroenterologists, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers high-quality care to patients with digestive health concerns.
This role is ideal for Nurse Practitioners (NPs) or Physician Assistants (PAs) looking for a Post-Anesthesia Care (PACU) type position.
Department/Division specifics:5 physicians and 1 APP
The APP will provide outpatient clinical management including polyp recall navigation, new and follow-up patient care
Patients are seen at the main clinic on the Rush Copley hospital campus as well as in Yorkville
Duties & Responsibilities:The primary responsibility includes inpatient follow-ups and outpatient clinic
Other job responsibilities include managing the patient’s immediate post-operative recovery, ensuring they are stable and comfortable while monitoring vital signs, pain levels and complications
Monday – Friday: 36 hours of patient-facing care per week. No weekends, holidays, or on call required
Clinical Care & Assessment:Conduct comprehensive health histories and physical exams focused for pre procedure care
Recover patients from interventional GI procedures with ability to manage post procedure complications
Independent outpatient clinic.
Conduct rounds on inpatients with GI diseases like acute pancreatitis and its complications, choledocholithiasis and other biliary diseases, and post procedure follow ups
Order and interpret diagnostic tests including labs, pathology, and imaging
Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state laws and clinical guidelines
Patient Education & Advocacy:Educate patients and families on GI conditions, lifestyle modifications, and preventive care
Promote shared decision-making and informed consent
Refer patients to community resources and support groups as needed
Care Coordination & Continuity:Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and care coordinators to ensure seamless patient care
Provide follow-up care and monitor chronic GI conditions
Triage patient calls and messages, ensuring timely responses and interventions
Qualifications:Experience of 2 years or more of Advanced Practice Provider experience in Gastroenterology, Surgery, and Intensive Care is required for this role
APRN Candidates will require Acute Care Certification
Position Requirements :Nurse Practitioner:
Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position
Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP)
Physician Assistant:Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program
Current certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care.
