Job Title
Research Scientist, Analytical R&D
OverviewEntegris is currently seeking an Analytical Research Scientist to join our Research & Development Team in Aurora, Illinois. In this role, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional Entegris teams in a fast-paced, innovative environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in applying advanced analytical techniques to develop creative solutions that support the development and commercialization of high-performance advanced materials solutions for the semiconductor industry.
WhatYou'll Do
- Develop and apply comprehensive materials characterization strategies using state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation and techniques, including NMR spectroscopy, to build mechanistic understanding of structure, composition, and performance relationships in complex material systems.
- Collaborate closely with analytical and product development teams to develop quantitative characterization methods that elucidate structure-function relationships across nanoparticles, polymers, and chemical additives in aqueous systems.
- Expand and strengthen in-house characterization, simulation, and theoretical capabilities in colloidal science, polymer science, and materials science while collaborating with external laboratories, universities, and instrument vendors to identify and implement valuable characterization techniques.
- Design, develop, and execute new analytical capabilities and methodologies that support new product development, intellectual property generation, emerging technologies, and technical problem-solving efforts.
- Lead the planning, execution, and documentation of analytically focused projects, ensuring technical rigor and alignment with business objectives.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in analytical characterization with particular emphasis on NMR spectroscopy, supporting multiple business areas across the company.
- Communicate findings and conclusions effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences in a timely manner and contribute to innovation submissions and patent filings as needed.
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of industrial experience, or Postdoctoral experience in academia, with at least 1 year in a field highly relevant to CMP or colloidal science, is strongly preferred.
- Experience building and maintaining academic-industrial collaborations is a plus.
- Strong expertise in NMR spectroscopy, along with experience in one or more analytical techniques used to characterize organic and inorganic materials (e.g., LC-MS, HPLC, IC, ICP, FTIR, electron microscopy, XRD, XRF, EDX, particle size analysis, GPC/SEC, electroanalytical measurements, rheometry, or interfacial characterization methods).
- Demonstrated ability to develop novel analytical methodologies and approaches for complex, multifaceted projects, particularly using NMR spectroscopy. Experience with LC-MS is a plus.
- Experience in advanced NMR techniques (homo/heteronuclear 1D & 2D, low-field NMR, Solid-State NMR).
- Strong chemical and polymer characterization and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Strong critical thinking and attention to detail, with a proven ability to generate innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
- Results-driven, self-motivated individual with the ability to set goals, plan effectively, and execute sophisticated research projects independently.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while clearly and concisely communicating timelines, progress, and results to internal partners and stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of statistical principles and methodologies, with the ability to apply them effectively to analyze and interpret analytical datasets.
