About the role:
A gas station cashier provides friendly, efficient customer service while supporting the daily operations of the store and fuel forecourt. Core responsibilities include operating the cash register, processing fuel and merchandise transactions, answering customer questions, and maintaining a clean, organized store environment.
This position is responsible for selling restricted products—including tobacco and lottery items—while strictly following Meijer policies and state regulations for . Cashiers must consistently check identification for age‑restricted purchases and ensure compliance with all legal and company standards.
Additional duties include overseeing the hot food area by preparing items, monitoring food safety and holding times, maintaining equipment cleanliness, and ensuring products are properly stocked and labeled. The role also involves minor pump maintenance such as replacing receipt paper, clearing simple pump errors, checking nozzle function, and monitoring fuel activity on the forecourt.
Safety responsibilities include responding to small fuel spills using approved cleanup procedures and maintaining a safe environment for customers and team members. Inside the store, the cashier completes routine cleaning tasks such as maintaining restrooms, wiping down counters and equipment, and ensuring the facility meets sanitation expectations. Stocking duties include rotating inventory, refilling cooler products, and supporting general merchandise replenishment.
Success in this role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, reliability, the ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment, and a strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and excellent customer service.

This job has a step pay plan that generally starts between the rates below with raises occurring after predetermined hours worked. The actual rate offered will meet or surpass the legal wage requirement for the job s location. $15.25 - $16.63
