About the Role

Seeking a Strategic Sales Manager to join our dynamic Higher Education Sales & Success Team. This role focuses on increasing Wiley’s digital market share through a comprehensive strategic plan for sales and success, driving course, departmental, account, and divisional sales growth and renewals. The position leads a team of Digital Learning Executives and Customer Success Managers, responsible for selecting, recruiting, developing, and retaining top talent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and successfully execute a 1‑3 year strategic plan to increase digital market share in the region.
  • Drive takeaways with digital required and renewable revenue, generating better‑than‑industry growth rates.
  • Achieve yearly validation goals within the region, surpassing prior year levels.
  • Ensure best‑in‑class customer experiences throughout the region and drive a performance culture.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of short‑term and long‑term customers, including market development, pilots, and expansions.
  • Develop operating budgets, including territory alignment, sales targets, and expenses, and manage staff utilization and resources.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top talent, ensuring an effective selection and development process for field and inside sales reps.
  • Reduce churn of Wiley

    PLUS and Alta digital, improving digital revenue penetration and customer retention.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of industry trends, competitive landscape, and educational trends.
  • Identify digital business opportunities that contribute to the growth and profitability of Higher Education.
  • Manage fiscal year‑end profitability and oversee related financial responsibilities.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years proven success in sales and 3+ years experience directly managing a high‑performing team.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the publishing process and Higher Education digital content sales.
  • Comprehensive understanding of selling digital platforms, course management systems, and digital content.
  • Strong product knowledge and understanding of market and curriculum strengths and weaknesses.
  • Strategic planning experience with demonstrated sales growth and increased market share.
  • Success in competitive signing situations and developing long‑term relationships with customers and authors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, , and Learning Management System functionality.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, listening, negotiating, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must reside within the territory:
    Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota.
  • Valid driver’s license and readiness for overnight travel up to 20% of the time.
Travel & Location

Travel includes regional and national conferences, sales meetings, visits to corporate offices, and university/community college targets, especially during spring and fall selling seasons.
