Role Description

The Lead Mechanic is a full-time, on-site role based in Aurora, IL, responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of trucks, trailers, and related heavy equipment used in open deck transportation. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, performing routine and emergency repairs, and ensuring all vehicles meet safety and regulatory standards. The Lead Mechanic will plan and manage preventive maintenance schedules, maintain accurate service records, and coordinate with operations to minimize downtime.

This role also involves mentoring other mechanics, monitoring parts inventory, and recommending improvements to maintenance processes. The Lead Mechanic collaborates closely with dispatch and management to keep the fleet operating safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively.

Qualifications
  • Strong skills in Maintenance and Maintenance & Repair of commercial trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
  • Experience implementing Preventive Maintenance programs to reduce breakdowns and extend equipment life.
  • Hands-on background working with Heavy Equipment commonly used in open deck and specialized hauling.
  • Proficiency in Troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and brake system issues.
  • Relevant technical training or certification in diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of DOT, safety, and regulatory requirements for commercial transportation fleets.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Experience leading or mentoring other mechanics in a shop or fleet environment is preferred.
  • Ability to work on-site in Aurora, IL, including occasional extended hours as operational needs require.
