Job Summary
Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks with front, side, or rear-end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and the type of truck. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pick‑up services of containers filled with waste or recyclable material, which may weigh in excess of 1,000 pounds and require maneuvering wheeled containers to a pick‑up stage.
They navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, with highly skilled backing maneuvers essential to the job. Residential Drivers collect household waste or recyclable material, safely maneuvering vehicles in residential environments. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers, navigating tight overhead environments on industrial routes. All drivers must perform highly skilled backing maneuvers to successfully complete their duties.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA and DOT requirements, and all local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks utilizing the standard DVIR.
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify the Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify the Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including closed or impassable streets, heavy receptacles too heavy to service, or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by the Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
- One year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL.
- One year equivalent military driving within the last seven years.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- Successfully complete pre‑employment screening, including drug screen and physical.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air‑brake endorsement or CDL Class B with an air‑brake endorsement.
- High School Diploma or GED (accredited).

The expected base pay range for this on‑site position is $24.58 per hour. The specific salary offered may be influenced by the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
