Overview
A growing manufacturing organization is seeking a Plant Controller / Manufacturing Finance Manager to support operational finance, cost accounting, and financial planning activities at a key manufacturing facility. This role will serve as a strategic business partner to plant leadership and corporate finance, driving financial visibility, profitability, and operational performance.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in cost accounting, standard costing, FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and manufacturing finance
. This position offers significant exposure to operations and provides an opportunity to influence business decisions through financial analysis and partnership.
This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with plant leadership, operations, engineering, and supply chain teams to support financial performance and business decision-making.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and monthly financial analysis activities.
- Analyze manufacturing costs, labor efficiency, overhead absorption, inventory performance, and operational variances.
- Maintain and improve standard costing processes, cost models, and inventory valuation accuracy.
- Perform detailed variance analysis and communicate key drivers impacting business performance.
- Support month-end close activities, including inventory reconciliation, production analysis, and financial reporting.
- Monitor inventory controls, cycle counts, and cost of goods sold performance.
- Assist with capital expenditure tracking, investment analysis, and ROI measurement.
- Develop and enhance reporting tools, dashboards, and financial models using Excel, Power BI, and ERP systems.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, operational efficiency, and financial controls.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to identify business risks and opportunities.
- Support annual operating plans and strategic planning initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Approximately 5–7 years of experience in manufacturing finance, cost accounting, FP&A, or operational finance.
- Strong experience with cost accounting and standard costing in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience performing labor, overhead, inventory, and variance analysis.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, reporting, and financial analysis.
- Experience utilizing BI and reporting tools such as Power BI.
- ERP system experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively partner with operational leadership.
- Manufacturing industry experience.
- Experience supporting plant operations or manufacturing facilities.
- Exposure to inventory accounting, BOM management, and product costing.
- Experience with continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization.
- Familiarity with manufacturing ERP systems.
The successful candidate will be:
- A hands-on finance professional with strong manufacturing finance expertise.
- A business partner capable of translating data into actionable operational insights.
- Experienced in cost accounting and standard costing with a deep understanding of manufacturing operations.
- Highly proficient in Excel and financial analysis tools.
- Comfortable working directly with plant leadership and operations teams.
- Process-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Looking to continue growing within plant finance, operational finance, or controllership without previously holding executive-level positions.
- Base Salary: $105,000 - $110,000 + bonus
