Engineering Manager

Overview

We’re partnering with a confidential client in Northeast Ohio to hire an Engineering Manager who brings both technical depth and hands-on leadership.

This is a newly created, high-impact role for a true player coach. You’ll lead a growing engineering team while staying directly involved in technical work. This is not a pure people manager position. You’ll be designing, problem solving, and helping shape product strategy alongside managing engineers.

You will walk into managing approximately 6 to 8 engineers with plans to grow the team. The role is primarily onsite to support close collaboration across engineering, technical support, and product development. Travel is minimal and expected to stay under roughly 10 percent.

In this role, you will lead the design, development, and validation of advanced actuation systems supporting industrial, valve, mobile, and OEM applications. You’ll provide technical oversight on system architecture, component selection, controls integration, and failure analysis, while also supporting customer-facing technical discussions and design reviews.

On the leadership side, you’ll manage and develop a multidisciplinary team of mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers, set performance goals, support professional development, and promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. You’ll oversee engineering projects from concept through production release, coordinating schedules, resources, and risk mitigation while partnering closely with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and Program Management.

You’ll also help drive structured design processes including requirements definition, design reviews, DFMEA, and validation, while improving engineering workflows, documentation standards, and design tools. There is real opportunity here to influence product strategy and the technology roadmap.

• Oversee projects from concept through production release; coordinate schedules, resources, and risk mitigation.
• Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and Program Management.
• Drive structured design processes including requirements definition, design reviews, DFMEA, and validation.
• Improve engineering workflows, documentation standards, and design tools.
• Provide technical oversight on system architecture, component selection, controls integration, and failure analysis.
• Support customer-facing technical discussions and design reviews.

• Strong technical background with credibility among senior engineers.
• Experience leading small engineering teams while remaining hands on.
• Targeting 3+ years of engineering leadership (flexible for strong candidates).
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field preferred (not absolute if technical depth is proven).
• Background in industrial actuation systems or motion control.
• Experience with servo systems, power electronics, embedded controls, industrial automation, or hydraulics is a plus.
• Comfortable supporting sales with technical value propositions and customer discussions.
