Waterjet Operator
The Waterjet Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating waterjet cutting equipment to cut metal, plastic, or composite materials according to engineering drawings and production requirements. This role ensures precise, high-quality cuts while maintaining safe machine operation, accurate documentation, and strong workflow efficiency in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities- Set up and operate CNC waterjet cutting machines according to job requirements.
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine specifications, cutting paths, tolerances, and material requirements.
- Load and secure materials on the waterjet bed and verify the correct material type and thickness.
- Input or adjust machine programs (as needed) to ensure accurate cut paths and optimized nesting.
- Monitor machine performance, cutting quality, and abrasive flow during operation.
- Perform routine machine maintenance, including nozzle changes, filter checks, pump inspection, and abrasive management.
- Inspect finished parts for accuracy using calipers, micrometers, gauges, or other measurement tools.
- Document production data, part counts, scrap reasons, and machine logs.
- Maintain a clean, organized workstation and follow all safety protocols including PPE requirements.
- Communicate tooling issues, machine problems, or material defects to supervisors or maintenance personnel.
- Assist with continuous improvement efforts, lean manufacturing practices, and process optimization.
- Experience operating CNC or waterjet equipment preferred; training may be provided.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, dimensions, and technical specifications.
- Basic understanding of machining, cutting tools, materials, and tolerances.
- Strong attention to detail, measurement accuracy, and quality inspection.
- Basic computer or CNC interface skills.
- Ability to lift materials safely or use mechanical assistance when needed.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise, water spray, and abrasive materials.
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school preferred.
