Position Summary

The County Extension Educator is an exempt professional staff role responsible for managing County Extension resources and delivering 4‑H and Family and Consumer Science programs. The incumbent works under the supervision of the county 4‑H agent and FACS agent, coordinating program administration and education delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant experience in extension or related educational programming.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Good communication skills – oral and written.
  • Ability to work with various populations.
  • Knowledge of Cooperative Extension 4‑H program activities.
Physical Demands
  • Some degree of physical activity, including lifting, is needed to conduct programs (e.g., handling animals, supplies, and demonstration materials, audio/visual equipment).
  • Some standing and/or sitting for various lengths of time.
  • Withstand various seasonal weather conditions for outside activities.
  • Driving as needed to perform job duties.
Additional Responsibilities

70% of time:

  • Teach 4‑H educational learning programs in the classroom.
  • Direct 4‑H’ers in preparation for the 4‑H competitive events including project achievement, judging teams, etc.
  • Transport or arrange for transportation of 4‑H’ers to various district and state events and, if assigned, provide leadership for youth while attending these events.
  • Incorporate results of program evaluations and feedback in planning future programs and techniques used in implementing programs.
  • Publicize programs and workshops offered in local county or nearby counties to clientele.

10% of time (Administration):

  • Maintain office inventory of supplies and materials as needed to support the 4‑H program.
  • Regularly participate in staff conferences and share ideas among all co‑workers, leaders, district staff, and specialists to promote teamwork.
  • Utilize current research data and information on emerging issues in program development and teaching as mandated by GA 4‑H.

10% of time (Instructional):

  • Conduct in‑school club meetings and deliver the prepared curriculum that meets state (Georgia Professional Standards) guidelines.
  • Incorporate results of program evaluations and feedback in planning future programs under the direction of the 4‑H Agent and District Program Development Coordinator 4‑H.
  • Identify, recruit, train, and help supervise 4‑H volunteers in planning, teaching, and evaluating cooperative extension 4‑H programs.
  • Assist interested volunteers in the successful completion of the 4‑H Chaperone Training.

10% of time (Reporting and Support):

  • Make reports to appropriate clientele, staff members, Board of Education, Board of Commissioners, and public officials through electronic mass media, personal contacts, and/or group meetings.
  • Submit accurate and complete reports in a timely manner in GA Counts, 4‑H enrollment, and the District office.
