Basic knowledge of cardiovascular procedures, patient positioning, and emergency patient care situations.

Description:

The Cardiovascular Technologist I is a professional training to assist during diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiovascular procedures.
He/she will train to assist the physician during the procedures and operate specialized equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
The Cardiovascular Technologist I is responsible for maintaining sterile technique during procedures.
He/she will assist in the maintenance of a safe and efficient environment primarily for adult and geriatric patients.
The cardiovascular technologist may participate in the call rotation once appropriately oriented and checked off on competencies.

Core Responsibilities and

Essential Functions:

Will train to assist the physician in the performance of facility-specific cardiovascular procedures.
Will train to function in monitoring, scrubbing, or circulating roles.
Should utilize critical thinking skills.
Will work in conjunction with interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists.
Will train to prepare and educate patients for procedures.
Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.

Job Responsibilities:

Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs.
Able to work scheduled and on-call hours when required.
Should know existing lines of communication and authority.
Handles communications properly.
Introduces self to patients utilizing proper scripting.
Transports patients as needed.
Provides privacy and comfort for patients.
Assists with maintenance of departmental records and compliance with standards and regulations.
Learns how to enter data into relevant logs and verify accuracy and completeness.
Completes necessary paperwork.
Answers departmental phone using proper scripting.
Maintains stock levels and checks for outdated materials.
Maintains current License and BLS/ACLS certifications.
Works as a team with other lab staff to obtain the best possible outcomes.
Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedures.

Quality and Patient Safety:
Verifies patient  two patient identifiers.
Verifies patient chart for name accuracy.
Verifies written order and consent, seeking clarification if needed.
Uses and understands pre-procedural verification and time-out forms.
Understands and complies with site and side marking when indicated.

Patient

Education:

Will train to provide education to patients and their families.
Will train to prepare patients for future procedures and provide post-procedural instructions as needed.
Will perform other duties as assigned.
Complies with all relevant policies and standards of work.

Required Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or Associate's degree in Health Science preferred.

Required Minimum

Skills:

Basic knowledge of cardiovascular procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection.
Basic knowledge of electrocardiography, cardiac anatomy, and hemodynamics preferred.
Ability to react quickly to emergency care situations.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
Must communicate and understand verbal and written English and display a positive attitude.
