Job SummaryResponsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of an assigned shift using independent judgment to assure successful and safe delivery of care. Facilitates onboarding and precepting under the guidance of their direct lead. Serves as a clinical resource/support to the staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments by providing direct patient care, medication administration and ensuring equipment resources and function.
This role may require the duty of a patient assignment. Responsible for promotion and execution of PI initiatives. May assist with data collection and analysis of PI activities. Customer Service, and Safety and Quality initiatives for designated shift.
NOTE:
New Hires (After 11/13/2022):
Must have one or more of the following NBRC Credentials: ACCS, AE-C, NPS, RPFT (AE-C certifications prior to September 1, 2022 issued by National Asthma Educator Certification Board).
- Leads the shift. Assures delivery of safe patient care by analyzing patient needs and skill competency level of personnel when making patient assignments.
- Facilitates interdisciplinary communication and planning to ensure timely care delivery including discharge.
- Communicates with direct leader any needs or concerns pertaining to patient care delivery or employee performance.
- Assists in the evaluation of staff, providing input to Supervisor regarding clinical performance, teamwork, etc. of individuals.
- Assigns shift workload and preceptors.
- Maintains financial stewardship in relation to productivity.
- Maintains daily equipment function and calibration.
- Provides resources and support.
- Monitors equipment inventory, location and utilization to ensure staff have tools and equipment needed to perform their job.
- Assists in acquiring appropriate staffing levels.
- Provides clinical assistance to staff as necessary.
- Assists with orientation & training for new employees and student clinical rotations.
- Assists with annual skill competencies.
- Communicates educational needs of staff (i.e., huddles, new equipment or knowledge in‑services for RT staff).
- Maintains staff education records.
- Maintains current knowledge related to patient population to deliver the highest standard of care.
- Identifies learning needs of workgroup and communicates needs to direct leader.
- Demonstrates excellence in respiratory care practice by promoting process improvement and committee participation.
- Rounds on patients to evaluate quality and appropriateness of patient care including corrective action when needed utilizing peer coaching and accountability.
- Demonstrates excellence in Respiratory Care practice by providing the highest standard of direct patient care.
- Participates in implementation and monitoring of PI, Customer Service, and Safety and Quality initiatives to improve patient care delivery.
Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
RequiredMinimum Education
- Associates Respiratory Therapy or Bachelors Respiratory Therapy-Preferred
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC-ALS - Amer Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor
- PALS - Pediatric Adv Life Support or ARC-PALS - Amer Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support or PALS-I - PALS - Instructor or PALS-P - PALS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
- NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program or ARC-NALS - Amer Red Cross Neonatal Advanced Life Support or NRP-I - NRP - Instructor or NRP-P - NRP-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
- NBRC-RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapy
- RCP - Respiratory Care Prof
Neonatal Resuscitation Provider within 180 Days Preferred or NRP Instructor within 180 Days Preferred.
Required Minimum ExperienceCurrent advance credential with a minimum of two (2) years clinical experience to work in all critical care areas but not limited to Adult ICU, CVICU, BURN, NICU, Emergency Departments (Adult and Pediatric) as it relates each facility. 100 credit hours towards a B.S. degree may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
