PRN Respiratory Therapist

Role Overview: The Respiratory Therapist II provides advanced respiratory care, including medication administration, ventilator management, airway procedures, and patient assessments in critical care settings. They deliver patient education, collaborate with healthcare teams, and participate in staff development and training. The role emphasizes delivering quality, safe, and evidence-based care tailored to diverse patient needs, addressing biological, emotional, and psychosocial aspects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform patient assessments, verify orders, and administer therapies such as aerosolized medications, oxygen, and medical gases.
• Manage ventilators, including weaning, waveform interpretation, and airway management (intubation, extubation, trach care).
• Conduct arterial blood gas sampling and analysis.
• Educate patients and mentor new staff, students, and peers.
• Assist with invasive/non-invasive procedures and pulmonary diagnostics.
• Promote a safe environment by ensuring accurate documentation, high patient safety standards, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with policies, standards, and best practices.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care (preferred).
• Registered Respiratory Therapist certification and Respiratory Care Professional license.
• Current BLS certification; ACLS certification or instructor status preferred.
• 0-2 years of clinical experience, with at least 6 months in critical care.
• Strong communication, critical thinking, assessment, and computer skills; ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals.
