Position OverviewThe 1st Shift CNC Mill Programmer/Operator is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC milling machines to produce precision components used in the manufacturing and repair of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to create accurate CNC programs and machine setups that meet specified tolerances and quality standards.
Key responsibilities include tool selection, fixture setup, and the execution of efficient machining operations using G‑code and CAM software. The CNC Mill Programmer/Operator performs in-process inspections, verifies part conformity using precision measuring instruments, and makes necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy throughout production.
In addition to machining tasks, the position includes routine machine maintenance, monitoring tooling wear, and ensuring proper coolant and lubrication levels. Success in this role requires strong mechanical aptitude, problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and a dedication to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment while consistently delivering high‑quality components.
Essential Duties- Produce machine parts by programming from drawings, setting up, and operating through part completion.
- Write, store, and retrieve programs for machining parts.
- Plan machining time by reviewing work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, and material specifications.
- Communicate any special tooling and stock tooling needed for machine/job.
- Read blueprints and operate and inspect jobs.
- Horizontal experience is a plus.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments.
- Machine parts to specifications using milling machines.
- Measure, examine, and test completed parts for defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Complete preventive maintenance on equipment as scheduled and maintain oil levels.
- Perform regular in-process inspection of equipment.
- Perform regular inspection of tooling.
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintain equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements and troubleshooting malfunctions.
- Notify supervisors if there are any problems with the machine.

Computer SkillsKnowledge of G&M code/programming.
Education/ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Ability to read blueprints.
- Ability to read tape measures.
- Ability to make offsets and program changes when needed.
- Ability to schedule jobs on machines within department as required.
- Knowledge of creating/writing programs and troubleshooting machine errors.
- Familiarity with all computerized numerical control tooling and methods of machining mills.
