Job SummaryThe RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high‑quality, safe patient care. The nurse practices in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders, supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The practice framework is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence‑based practice and research.
RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values. All RN Clinical Nurses are licensed and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implement the Scope of Practice and the Code of Ethics Standards set by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, follows system policies and procedures, and supports service excellence goals.
Responsibilities And Essential Functions
- Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
- Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in clinical care using evidence‑based practice, analytical/critical thinking, and individualized care coordination.
- Provides relationship‑based patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics (age, gender, disease, etc.) and adapts service delivery to cultural diversity.
- Always partners with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods (bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching, keeping patients and significant others updated and focusing on patient goals).
- Practices using current clinical practice standards.
- Teamwork and Collaboration (55%)
- Coordinates delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model.
- Facilitates diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication (interdisciplinary rounds, case review, etc.) and timely documentation.
- Demonstrates fiscally responsible teamwork and promotes recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
- Participates in performance improvement, research, and shared governance at all levels.
- Professional Development and Initiative (25%)
- Completes initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and required mandatory education.
- Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses and staff or students across disciplines.
- Evidence Based Practice and Research (5%)
- Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement.
- Participates in value analysis and ensures adherence to health care system policies and professional association standards.
- Collects data, poses clinical questions, and consults experts using evidence.
- Resources and Support (0%)
- Proactively plans patient care across the continuum during direct patient care.
- Develops protocols and procedures in collaboration with care managers and other team members.
- Supports efficient use of human and material resources.
Minimum Education
- Associate's Degree in Nursing or Graduation from an accredited/approved school of nursing (Required).
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi‑State Compact.
- Basic Life Support or BLS – Instructor.
- Less than 1 year’s completion of accredited/approved school of nursing with requisite clinical hours (Required).
- Ability to read, write, and speak English language.
- Optimize the use of technology to support clinical care and has basic computer skills.
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, along with customer service skills.
- Ability to function in a fast‑paced environment and respond to emergencies decisively, calmly, and respectfully.
- Excellent time‑management skills; uses evidence and analytical skills with strong critical thinking.
