Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized, high‑quality, safe patient care. The role operates within a learning environment guided by Nurse Managers, the Wellstar Shared Governance Model, the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, and evidence‑based practice and research. RN competencies are supported by the Wellstar values and the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, the Scope of Practice, and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.

As a member of the patient services team, the RN upholds patient voice, system policies, and service excellence goals.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
  • Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence‑based practice, analytical and critical thinking, and individualized care.
  • Provide relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics and adapt service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
  • Partner with patients and significant others using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching); keep patients and their relatives updated and focus the plan of care on patients’ goals.
  • Practice using current clinical practice standards.
Teamwork and Collaboration
  • Coordinate the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model; use interdisciplinary communication methods such as rounds and case reviews; complete timely documentation; foster a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration in a fiscally responsible manner and promote recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
  • Participate in and support performance improvement, inclusive of all stakeholders, research, and evidence‑based practice; initiate or lead such activities and support participation in shared governance at all system levels.
Professional Development and Initiative
  • Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
  • Serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students for all disciplines) to develop a qualified future workforce and create a healthy work environment.
Evidence‑Based Practice and Research
  • Promote evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing; participate in activities such as value analysis to evaluate patient care products.
  • Uphold all system/organizational policies, procedures, and clinical competencies, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, accreditation requirements, and standards such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar health system safety absolutes.
  • Participate in data collection, pose relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence‑based practice, consult appropriate experts, and use reliable resources to address practice questions.
Resources and Support
  • Proactively plan for patient care across the continuum while delivering direct patient care.
  • Develop protocols and procedures when called or through self‑initiation in collaboration with care managers and team members to achieve best‑practice outcomes (e.g., reduce re‑admission rates, avoidable days, adverse events).
