Job SummaryThe RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care providers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. The nurse operates within the Wellstar Shared Governance Model, the Wellstar Professional Practice Model, and evidence-based practice and research. Responsibilities align with the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
As a member of the patient services team, the RN upholds patient voice, system policies and procedures, and supports service excellence goals.
- Exemplary Practice and Outcomes – Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; outcome identification; planning; implementation and evaluation) using evidence-based practice, applying analytical/critical thinking, and coordinating care through effective partnerships to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Patient-Centered Care – Provides relationship-based, patient-centered care that reflects population-specific characteristics and cultural diversity, adapting service delivery accordingly.
- Patient and Family Engagement – Partners with the patient and significant others (as appropriate) using methods such as bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, just-in-time and planned patient teaching, ensuring patient goals guide the care plan.
- Standard of Practice – Practices using current clinical practice standards.
- Teamwork and Collaboration – Coordinates safe, high-quality care with interdisciplinary communication, timely documentation, and a respectful, inclusive clinical environment. Demonstrates fiscally responsible teamwork and supports recruitment/retention of healthcare staff.
- Performance Improvement – Participates in performance improvement activities, supports research utilization, and contributes to shared governance.
- Completes initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and mandatory education.
- Serves as a preceptor and/or mentor for other nurses and staff to sustain a qualified workforce and healthy work environment.
- Promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement; participates in value analyses and decision-making related to patient care products.
- Upholds system policies, procedures, and clinical competencies, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards (e.g., patient safety goals and safety absolutes).
- Participates in data collection, raises clinical questions, and uses evidence to address practice questions.
- Proactively plans for patient care across the care continuum in direct patient care settings.
- Contributes to protocol and procedure development in collaboration with care managers and the care team to achieve best-practice outcomes (e.g., reduce readmissions, shorten hospital stays, reduce adverse events).
- Supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
- Performs other duties as assigned and complies with Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
- Education – Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing;
Nursing Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Licensure/Certification – RN license (single state) or RN-Compact;
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (or equivalent per policy). - Experience – Minimum 2 years of direct patient care nursing experience.
- Skills – Proficient reading/writing/speaking English; strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; ability to use technology in clinical care; capable of fast-paced decision-making and emergencies; strong time management and analytical thinking.
