Job SummaryThe flow coordinator is responsible for the safe and efficient daily operation of the Cath & EP Labs. The coordinator ensures optimal patient care delivery while maintaining essential procedural flow through the department. Responsibilities include staffing assignments, scheduling of procedures, collaborating with physicians to coordinate procedure times, and coordinating with the receiving unit & bed control for proper patient placement post‑procedure.
The flow coordinator works under the direction of the Cath Lab Manager and/or Department Director, supporting Well Star in achieving its mission and goals, fostering communication and collaborative practice, and serving as a role model to promote a professional image and expert clinical practice.
- Coordinated daily patient schedules.
- Makes appropriate staff assignments.
- Communicates with the logistics coordinator concerning equipment problems or suggestions, new procedures, new equipment use, or experimental protocols.
- Communicates with room team leaders regarding daily staffing, physician schedules, equipment issues and coordination of patient flow to ensure optimal productivity.
- Practices & promotes Well Star standards of gold.
- Functions as a role model for clinical staff.
- Communicates with team leaders to ensure optimal productivity.
- Able to function as Cath lab team member during procedures, and assists when necessary.
- Maintains clinical competency. Available for call if needed.
- Collaborates with physicians and their extenders regarding scheduling.
- Provides input to Cath Lab management and the logistics coordinator, identifying the impact of new technology or products on clinical operations and staffing requirements.
- Supports and participates in Process Improvement.
- Complies and supports Cath Lab Department and Well Star Policies & Procedures.
- Coordinate ongoing educational activities.
- Provide orientees with necessary experience.
- Provide feedback concerning educational needs of staff.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems.
- Identify equipment or product needs.
- Provide feedback regarding function of equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
RequiredMinimum Education
- Associates Nursing or Diploma (Nurse)
- Bachelors Nursing
- Preferred
- All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- ACLS
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC‑ALS
- American Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS‑I - ACLS Instructor or ACLS‑P - ACLS Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days - BLS
- Basic Life Support or ARC‑BLS
- American Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS‑I
- Basic Life Support
- Instructor - RN
- Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN‑COMPACT - RN
- Multi‑state Compact
- Minimum 1 year Cath Lab experience with Interventional cardiac procedure experience.
- Extensive knowledge of invasive cardiovascular procedures
- Extensive knowledge of cardiovascular procedures
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work closely with physicians and clinical staff that possess high degree of technical ability
- Delegation skills are required
- Has ability to prioritize
- Must be able to assess staff skill level in order to make appropriate assignments
- Ability to function well in stressful and emergency situations is essential
- The ability to multi‑task is essential
- Strong customer service & interpersonal skills are essential
- Intra‑ and inter‑department coordination of patient care activities
- Detail oriented
- Able and willing to provide procedural support as needed
