Position: RN Medsurg Oncology- FT Nights 7pm-7am

Work Shift & Unit

Shift: Night (United States of America) 7pm-7am
Unit: FT RN Medsurg Oncology Unit – Cobb Hospital. 28‑bed oncology unit with primary emphasis on care of adult cancer patients. Provides 24‑hour inpatient services, including hospice and telemetry.

Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high‑quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence‑based practice and research.

RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, they uphold the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

Core

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

A. Exemplary Practice and Outcomes
1. Performs the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation) using evidence‑based practice and analytical/critical thinking to ensure individualized care and care coordination.
2. Provides relationship‑based patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapts service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
3. Partners with the patient and significant others using appropriate methods (bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching) to keep the patient’s goals the focus of the plan of care.
4. Practices using current clinical practice standards.

B. Teamwork and Collaboration
1. Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model, including interdisciplinary communication methods and timely documentation.
2. Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner and promoting recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
3. Participates and supports performance improvement with all stakeholders, including research utilization, to promote safe, quality patient care and actively supports shared governance at all system levels.

C. Professional Development and Initiative
1. Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
2. Serves as a preceptor or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students in all disciplines) to ensure a current and future qualified workforce, modeling professional nursing practice and creating a healthy work environment.

D. Evidence‑Based Practice and Research
1. Promotes evidence‑based practice, nursing research and performance improvement, participating in activities such as value analysis for decision making.
2. Upholds all health‑care system or organizational policies, procedures, and clinical competencies, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar Health System safety absolutes.
3. Participates in data collection, poses relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence‑based practice experts, and uses appropriate resources and evidence to address practice questions.

E. Resources and Support
1. Proactively plans for the care of patients across the continuum while delivering direct patient care.
2. Participates in the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self‑initiation in collaboration with care managers and other members of the health‑care team to achieve best‑practice outcomes.
