Job Summary

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized, high‑quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence‑based practice and research.

RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values. All RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, follows system policies and procedures, and supports service excellence goals.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Perform the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation; and evaluation) using evidence‑based practice, analytical and critical thinking, and ensure individualized care; coordinate care through effective partnerships that recognize the centrality of caring to achieve optimal patient care outcomes.
  • Provide relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease) and adapt service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.
  • Partner with the patient and significant others (as appropriate) using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shift report; interdisciplinary rounds; just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching); keep the patient and significant others updated and focus the plan of care on the patient’s goals.
  • Practice using current clinical practice standards.
  • Coordinate delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model, including timely documentation and a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner and promoting recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
  • Participate and support performance improvement, inclusive of all stakeholders, research and research utilization to promote safe, quality patient care; initiate and/or lead such activities; promote inter‑ and intradisciplinary processes; actively support/shared governance at all levels in the system.
  • Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
  • Serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students for all disciplines) to ensure a current and future qualified workforce, modeling professional practice and creating a healthy work environment.
  • Promote evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing; participate in activities such as value analysis as part of decision‑making processes in evaluating patient‑care products.
  • Uphold all health‑care system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies defined by this job description and professional associations, including legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements and standards such as TJC Patient Safety Goals and Wellstar Health Systems safety absolutes.
  • Participate in data collection, pose relevant clinical questions to advanced evidence‑based practice, consult appropriate experts, and use appropriate resources and evidence to address practice questions.
  • Proactively plan for the care of patients across the continuum while providing direct patient care.
  • Participate in the development of protocols and procedures when called upon or through self‑initiation, collaborating with care managers and other members of the health‑care team to achieve best practice outcomes (e.g., reduce re‑admissions, avoidable days, adverse events).
