Position: Elemntary Reading Interventionist - .5 Banfield, .5 Southgate

Reading Intervention Teacher

The Austin Public School District is seeking to hire a full-time reading intervention teacher effective for the  school year at the elementary level. APS is a world-class public school system located in Austin, MN. The reading interventionist provides targeted, evidence-based literacy instruction aligned to Minnesota READ Act requirements for students who demonstrate a need for reading intervention. This role is responsible for delivering district-approved reading interventions, progress monitoring student growth using tools such as Capti Read Basix and curriculum-based measures (CBMs), and using data systems (e.g., Edu Climber) to inform instructional decisions.

The interventionist collaborates with teachers and support staff to improve student literacy outcomes, ensures fidelity of intervention implementation, and supports student movement into and out of intervention services based on data.

Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job include: demonstrated understanding of evidence-based reading instruction aligned to the Science of Reading and Minnesota READ Act requirements, knowledge of adolescent literacy development, including foundational reading skills, ability to implement district-provided reading intervention programs with fidelity, strong skills in data collection, analysis, and application, including use of Edu Climber and curriculum-based measurement (CBM) data to adjust instruction and improve student outcomes, ability to analyze multiple data sources to identify student needs, set goals, and monitor progress over time, skill in providing differentiated, small-group, and individualized instruction based on student data, understanding of progress monitoring cycles, including decision rules for intensifying, maintaining, or exiting interventions, ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers and EL staff to support a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS), and strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records of student participation, progress, and outcomes.

Degree and license requirements include a BA or BS (MA preferred) K-12 Reading, Academic and Behavioral Strategist, Communication Arts and Literature, or Learning Disabilities license preferred. Applications will be accepted, and highly qualified candidates will be interviewed now until the position is filled. Candidates must have or be able to obtain a proper license from the Minnesota Department of Education, have completed a READ Act-approved structured literacy training, or be willing to engage in training during the  school year.
