Position OverviewThe Registered Nurse in our behavioral health programs provides both programmatic and direct medical care for the organization’s Intensive Residential Treatment Services program. This role involves clinical, supervisory, and direct care responsibilities, including oversight of client medical care, medication administration procedures, and supervision of staff administering medications.
Benefits$500 sign-on bonus. Full-time 3pm–11pm shift available.
Responsibilities- Monitor client health status while in the program.
- Assess client health at intake and monitor during the program.
- Coordinate referrals with community psychiatric care providers.
- Refer clients to or perform annual physical exams if due.
- Address the needs of recipients with co-occurring Substance Abuse Disorder.
- Assess all medical emergencies, including substance abuse problems.
- Ensure safe handling and administration of medications.
- Create and maintain documentation procedures and forms for proper medication use.
- Train staff in proper administration and documentation procedures.
- Observe staff competency in administering medications and other health‑related procedures.
- Educate staff regarding medications, side‑effects, and drug interactions.
- Educate clients regarding their specific medications, side‑effects, and drug interactions.
- Train staff in first‑aid techniques and response to medical emergencies.
- Provide ongoing consultation and advice to staff and clients.
- Order medications as needed.
- Supervise destruction of medications.
- Maintain open and honest communication with the Program Director, Treatment Supervisor, and other staff to promote teamwork and support.
- Inform Program Director and Treatment Supervisor of all significant events.
- Communicate client and program needs to Program Director, Treatment Supervisor, and other staff via timely written and verbal communication.
- Respond promptly to client and staff emergencies in a supportive manner.
- Attend weekly team meetings.
- Monitor medication administration programs with assistance of medical staff (i.e. RN, LPN, etc.).
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid license to practice in the State of Minnesota.
- Qualified Mental Health Practitioner in accordance with M Statute 245.462 Subdivision 17 (preferred).
- Professional experience in direct service to individuals with mental health issues and experience in management and supervision.
- Sincere desire to work with and promote the delivery of culturally competent services.
