Position Overview
Based out of Austin, TX, we are a global Defense and Space Manufacturing company experiencing an exciting time of rapid growth across all departments, which allows for tremendous career advancement opportunity. Due to growth, we are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to support financial close and reporting activities, maintain strong accounting controls, and ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
This role will drive month-end close processes, prepare account reconciliations and journal entries, assist with SEC reporting and filings, and support audits and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute month-end close activities, including preparing and posting journal entries, account reconciliations, and account analyses to ensure accurate and timely financial results.
- Prepare and review reconciliations for key balance sheet accounts and investigate variances to support reliable financial reporting.
- Support SEC Reporting and the preparation of quarterly and annual filings (10-Q, 10-K), schedules, and disclosures in accordance with GAAP.
- Apply ASC 606 and revenue recognition guidance to review contracts and revenue schedules, ensuring consistent and compliant treatment.
- Maintain and test SOX controls and internal controls over financial reporting, document processes, and support internal and external audits.
- Work with ERP systems and close management tools to streamline close, reporting, and reconciliation workflows.
- Perform inventory and cost accounting activities, analyze cost of goods sold, and reconcile inventory balances.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, operations, tax) to resolve accounting issues and improve accounting processes and controls.
- Prepare ad hoc financial analyses, account reconciliations, and support requests from senior management and external auditors.
- Mentor and coach junior accounting staff and assist in training on month end close activities and accounting policies.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience with demonstrated month-end close and account reconciliations experience
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP
- Familiarity with public company reporting and SEC requirements
- Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, working knowledge of PowerPoint and Word
- Experience with enterprise ERP systems such as Net Suite, Oracle, SAP, or similar
- Ability to work with financial reporting and data analysis tools
- Understanding of ASC 606 and long-term contract accounting
- Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or regulated environments
- CPA license
- Experience in a pre-IPO environment
- Public accounting experience (Big 4 or national firm) highly preferred
- Experience with account reconciliations tools (i.e. Flo Qast or similar)
- Exposure to inventory and cost accounting
- Annual base salary depending on experience
