Accounting Assistant, Bookkeeper/ Accounting Clerk
Responsibilities
- Audits invoices for payment.
- Verifies that each invoice matches the items on the purchase order, ensuring amounts agree to the purchase order and/or contract or bid items.
- Ensures that the departments remain in compliance with county procedures.
- Processes payments for all county departments, the Fee Officer Departments, and refunds.
- Assists vendors and county departments with questions concerning invoices.
- Processes payroll deductions to vendors.
- Works with Purchasing on billing issues with vendors.
- Processes various weekly check runs and transfers check files to the Treasurer’s Office for printing of checks.
- Runs reports for distribution to various departments concerning check runs.
- Maintains vendor records for 1099 purposes.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster, as directed by appropriate county managers.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field (an Associate’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience, plus the required 3 years of accounting experience, may be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree).
- 3 years of accounting experience.
- Knowledge of accounting and other finance-related areas.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow through independently on assigned projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deal with people effectively and professionally.
Salary Range: $28.80 – $36.00 hourly, based on qualifications. All full‑time employees are members of the Texas County District Retirement System (TCDRS) and enjoy a wide range of benefits.
