Job Summary
The Accountant II performs routine accounts payable tasks, supporting the fiscal management of DFPS. Responsibilities include preparing, auditing, and reconciling invoices, purchase orders, and receiving documentation; verifying supporting documentation for payments; interacting with program staff, vendors, and state officials; and ensuring compliance with state and federal rules.
Essential Job Functions- Prepare, audit, and reconcile invoices, purchase orders, contracts, and receiving documentation using CAPPS Financials, USAS, and Invoice Tracking System (50%).
- Interact with purchasers, program staff, budget analysts, business managers, vendors, and Comptroller representatives (30%).
- Identify and process voucher corrections, check cancellations, reissues, and direct deposit returns; evaluate procedures and recommend improvements (10%).
- Enter invoices into the Invoice Tracking System (10%).
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and automated accounting systems.
- Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to use a personal computer to research, track, and enter accounting information; perform financial analysis; interpret statutes; summarize records for accuracy.
- Ability to prepare clear correspondence regarding accounting transactions; work independently or in a team.
- Ability to handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, prioritize, plan, and coordinate work; work overtime as required.
- Experience in cash handling, banking, budget, bookkeeping, accounting or financial operations, including payables experience (preferred).
- High school graduation or equivalent.
