Senior Technical Accountant

Description

We are partnering with a high-growth organization in Austin to add a Senior Technical Accountant to their team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working through complex accounting topics, building clear policy guidance, and supporting accurate financial reporting in a structured, compliance-focused environment. You will play a key role in evaluating non-routine transactions, advising leadership on accounting treatment, and helping ensure consistency across the organization.

Responsibilities:

- Evaluate complex and non-routine transactions and determine appropriate accounting treatment under U.S. GAAP, including areas such as revenue, leases, equity compensation, and development-related costs

- Prepare and maintain technical accounting memos and position papers to support conclusions, estimates, and key judgments

- Develop and update accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency, scalability, and compliance

- Monitor new and evolving accounting guidance and assess potential impact on business operations and financial reporting

- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and technical accounting areas

- Assist in preparing financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules for external reporting requirements

- Analyze accounting implications of strategic transactions such as acquisitions or business combinations and provide guidance to stakeholders

- Serve as a primary liaison for technical accounting matters during external audits, including preparing documentation and responding to inquiries

- Strengthen internal controls and documentation in support of a growing and evolving reporting environment

- Identify accounting risks and provide practical recommendations to improve processes and mitigate exposure

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

- 5-8+ years of progressive technical accounting experience, ideally with a mix of public accounting and industry

- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP with the ability to apply guidance to complex or non-standard transactions

- Experience drafting technical accounting memoranda and documenting accounting positions

- Familiarity with ERP systems such as Net Suite, Oracle, SAP, or similar platforms

- Advanced Excel skills and ability to work with large data sets

- Experience supporting core accounting functions including close, journal entries, and reconciliations

- CPA or prior experience in a highly regulated or compliance-driven environment is a plus
