Assistant Controller- Insurance

A highly stable and growing insurance organization is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its accounting team. This role will support multiple entities and play a key part in financial reporting, statutory compliance, and ongoing process improvements. The team environment is collaborative and hands‑on, with strong visibility to leadership.

• Lead and support month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes for assigned entities
• Oversee preparation and review of GAAP and STAT financial statements, including regulatory filings
• Manage statutory reporting requirements such as Annual Statement, RBC reporting, Schedule F and Schedule P
• Supervise reinsurance accounting and related journal entries for multiple entities
• Partner with internal and external auditors and support audit deliverables
• Review journal entries, reconciliations, and account analyses for accuracy and completeness
• Support development and enhancement of internal controls and accounting processes
• Identify and implement process improvements, particularly within reporting and close workflows
• Participate in system/reporting enhancements, including upcoming reporting tool transition

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA strongly preferred
• 5–10+ years of accounting experience, ideally within insurance or financial services
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting required
• Experience with in the insurance industry (P&C preferred; open to other lines with strong STAT background)
• Reinsurance accounting experience preferred
• Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred (overseeing at least one direct report)
• Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets and reporting tools
