Fellowship Program Position: This Fellowship Program position is a full‑time, temporary, limited‑term assignment not to exceed three years from the date of hire. It is intended for applicants that have graduated with a bachelor's degree or a master's degree from an accredited college or university within the last 12 months.
Job Overview: The Health Accountant Associate is responsible for assisting with financial accounting work for the TRS Care and Active Care health plans. The incumbent will assist with accounting entries, reconciliations, financial reporting, and vendor payments. This position will proactively work with the Health Finance team, Health staff, and agency employees.
WHAT YOU WILL DOHealth Care Related Financial Activities
- Prepare adjusting journal entries.
- Review TRS‑Care and TRS‑Active Care invoices for accuracy and contract compliance and route for approvals.
- Track and report payments to all health care vendors.
- Assist with monitoring funds due from vendors to ensure that money is collected in a timely manner.
- Calculate and prepare IRS tax forms for the Affordable Care Act.
Reconciliation and Reporting
- Prepare general ledger reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and other periodic financial reports.
- Provide support for the annual financial statement audit.
Department Support
- Perform ad hoc tasks.
- Maintain accounting related files and records.
Fellowship Curriculum
- Participate in trainings and projects related to the TRS Fellowship Program including webinars, quarterly check‑ins, classes or other learning activities, book group, projects, and the mentoring program.
- Meet TRS Fellowship Program deadlines and goals for completion of trainings in deliverables in a timely manner.
- Perform related work as assigned.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance or a closely related field awarded within the last 12 months.

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) statements.
- Accounting and bookkeeping principles.
Skills in
- Analyzing accounting records, troubleshooting associated problems, and interpreting and applying applicable laws, policies and procedures.
- Planning, organizing, and prioritizing work assignments to manage a high‑volume workload in a fast‑paced and changing environment, and completing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Using a computer in a Windows environment with Microsoft Office word processing, spreadsheet, and other business software.
- Advance proficiency in Excel, specifically with formulas.
- Effective written and verbal communications, including explaining complex information to others in an understandable manner, and writing clear and precise policies, procedures, and correspondence.
- Completing detailed work with a high degree of accuracy.
