DescriptionTxDOT’s Financial Management Division is seeking an Accounts Receivable Specialist based in Austin, TX. This position performs complex accounting work that requires careful review of revenue‑related transactions. Duties include, but are not limited to, reconciliation between multiple accounting systems, processing correcting entries for accounting discrepancies, establishing receivables for amounts owed to the agency, tracking, reporting, and coordinating the collection of outstanding balances due to the department.
Responsibilities- Codes and processes data into People Soft Financials, USAS, or other automated accounting systems.
- Investigates and reconciles complex accounting discrepancies.
- Audits, processes, monitors, and follows up on division receivables.
- Examines accounting source documents for accuracy, completeness and compliance with departmental and state rules, regulations and agreements.
- Communicates with department staff to clarify information and/or resolve discrepancies in required documentation.
- Coordinates with the Comptroller’s office to reconcile accounting discrepancies.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Requires excellent communication skills, a passion for outstanding customer service, and ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and handling multiple tasks. Expects independent judgment and initiative, with unusual issues referred to supervisor.
Physical Requirements- Sedentary work, lift up to 10 lbs occasionally.
- Standing for prolonged periods.
- Repetitive motion involving wrists, hands, fingers.
Experience: 2 years accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, auditing experience. Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related fields.
- Generally accepted accounting principles, procedures, and terminology.
- Bookkeeping practices and procedures.
- Auditing and investigative methods, practices and procedures.
- Analytical and organizational skills.
- Effective working relationships with others.
- Proficiency with computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems.
