WHO YOU ARE:
You have good organizational skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple priorities while meeting strict deadlines. The ideal candidate will share our vision and goals within the State Office Tax Department to directly support our Status Determination Unit.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Accounts Examiner I performs entry-level accounts examination work. Work involves examining and auditing operating reports and financial accounting records. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:
* Respond to numerous high-volume inquiries and supports internal and external partners.
* Accurately documenting details of employer interactions and account actions.
* Contact taxpayers to obtain information necessary to resolve account problems.
* Perform moderate to complex examination/auditing of employer accounts.
* Conduct review of accounts to ensure compliance and to establish correct tax liability.
* Conduct review of accounts in relationship to predecessors and successors.
* Provide information on unemployment tax law regulations.
* Provide basic information to employers on how to use Tax systems for registering and reporting.
* Provide employers with information regarding their appeal rights.
* Participate in Appeals hearings to testify on actions taken during routine review of employer accounts including providing employers with their appeal rights.
* Assist with cross functional trainings and assignments in support of Department necessities.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
YOU QUALIFY WITH:
* One year of full-time experience in maintaining accounting records or performing auditing work
* Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:
* Knowledge, education, or experience in accounting or auditing.
* Experience interpreting and providing information on the Texas Unemployment Compensation Act, statutes, rules and laws.
* A positive attitude and professional demeanor to support colleagues in achieving division goals.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Windows-based personal computer programs experience, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Duty involves up to 10% travel within the state of Texas and the ability to lift 15 pounds. This position generally requires the routine operation of a personal vehicle in the performance of job duties and thus requires possession of a valid driver's license and liability insurance as required by state law. Requires non-agency owned transportation to make timely in-person contacts with employers at their residence or worksites that are not required to and may not meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) specifications.
