A Top 20 CPA and advisory firm with a national and international presence is seeking a Senior Accounting Associate – Construction to join a growing Client Accounting Services team.

This position serves as the primary day-to-day contact for construction clients and is responsible for ensuring agreed client deliverables are completed accurately and on time. The role is highly client-facing, requiring a proactive, hands-on approach to delivering exceptional service to general contractors, subcontractors, specialty trades, and franchise operators. Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate daily with internal and global teams to promote an efficient and collaborative working environment.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for construction clients.
  • Build strong client relationships through regular communication with project managers, business owners, and key stakeholders.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including progress billings, retainage receivable/payable, and subcontractor payment applications.
  • Complete ad hoc accounting projects, including job cost reconciliations, work-in-progress (WIP) schedule preparation, and reconciliation to financial statements.
  • Review draft working papers, WIP schedules, and financial statements prepared by support teams, providing feedback where required.
  • Perform job-level variance analysis, including budget versus actual, estimated cost to complete, and over/under billings, while delivering meaningful insights to clients.
  • Ensure timely completion of agreed client deliverables, including monthly financial reporting packages and WIP schedules.
  • Oversee job costing, change orders, project billings, retainage tracking, and vendor compliance documentation, including certificates of insurance, W-9s, and lien waivers.
  • Utilize construction accounting ERP and project management software.
  • Support clients during annual financial statement audits, reviews, surety and bonding reporting, and bank covenant compliance, while coordinating with external auditors and financial partners when required.
  • Monitor project scope and identify potential scope changes on client engagements.
  • Provide proactive financial guidance throughout the month, including cash flow forecasting linked to project draws and retention releases.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to team development.
  • Identify opportunities to expand service offerings through strong client relationships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Minimum of 4 years' accounting experience within public accounting, outsourced accounting, client accounting services, or construction accounting.
  • Experience delivering month-end financial reporting, WIP reporting, and advisory services to construction clients.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, accrual accounting, ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition), and construction accounting principles.
  • Experience using Quick Books Online and other accounting software preferred.
  • Experience with bill payment platforms, payroll systems, construction project management software, and other cloud-based accounting applications is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of construction project management systems.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development within the construction sector.
  • Strong communication, professionalism, and ability to work effectively within a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Teams.
