Sr. Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support capital accounting, financial reporting, and close activities for a Long-term Contract position based in Austin, Texas. This role will play a key part in maintaining accurate records for fixed assets and capital spending while partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and compliant financial operations. The ideal candidate brings strong month-end close experience, sound judgment in financial analysis, and a disciplined approach to documentation, reconciliations, and audit readiness.

Responsibilities:

- Oversee capital addition activities to ensure supporting records meet company policy and regulatory documentation standards.

- Apply capitalization guidelines to project costs, evaluate qualifying expenditures, and maintain accurate asset accounting records.

- Review completed projects each month and reclassify lower-value unitized items below the established threshold as needed.

- Track capital spending for both organic expansion initiatives and acquired operations, ensuring complete and accurate financial recording.

- Prepare journal entries for accruals, adjustments, and reclassifications while supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual close requirements.

- Reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts for assigned entities, investigate variances, and help ensure reliable financial statements.

- Partner with accounting, engineering, operations, and local management teams to monitor project status, asset inventory, and capital cost alignment.

- Maintain audit-ready schedules and supporting documentation, assist with audit preparation, and strengthen internal control execution for financial reporting.

- Analyze financial results, support budget development and variance reporting, and contribute recommendations that improve capital accounting processes and workflow efficiency.

- Complete ad hoc analysis, special projects, and additional accounting assignments as directed by leadership. Requirements - Strong experience with month-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement review.

- Hands-on background in asset accounting, asset additions, asset allocation, and asset management.

- Ability to assess capital expenditures against capitalization policies and maintain detailed supporting documentation.

- Experience reconciling general ledger and balance sheet accounts with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

- Working knowledge of internal controls, audit support practices, and maintaining organized, audit-ready records.

- Proven ability to analyze financial data, explain adjustments clearly, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.

- Proficiency in monitoring budgets, capital spending, and project-related financial activity.

- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced accounting environment.
