Job Description & How to Apply Below
We are partnering with an established and highly regarded public accounting firm seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join its general tax practice. This opportunity is well suited for a CPA who enjoys managing a diverse portfolio of business clients while remaining involved in both tax compliance and higher-level planning and advisory work.
The role offers considerable flexibility, with opportunities to work from the firm's Austin or Round Rock offices, in a hybrid arrangement, or fully remotely from eligible U.S. states.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead tax engagements throughout the full engagement lifecycle, including planning, execution, review, and final delivery.
- Manage a portfolio of clients and ensure tax filings, deliverables, and other compliance requirements are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Provide proactive tax planning, consulting, and advisory support based on clients' business and financial needs.
- Review tax work prepared by associates and senior-level team members and provide meaningful technical guidance.
- Coach, mentor, and develop junior professionals while helping them strengthen their technical and client-service capabilities.
- Build strong client relationships and serve as a trusted point of contact for tax-related matters.
- Coordinate engagement workflow, staffing, priorities, and deadlines across multiple concurrent assignments.
- Manage engagement economics, including billing, collections, and overall financial performance.
- Stay current on relevant federal, state, and local tax developments and identify their potential impact on clients.
- Active CPA license required.
- Ideally 7-8 years of tax experience within public accounting; highly qualified candidates with 5+ years of relevant experience will also be considered.
- Experience with a Big Four, national, regional, or established local public accounting firm.
- Broad business tax experience and the ability to work across a varied client portfolio rather than specializing exclusively in one narrow tax area.
- Demonstrated experience managing engagements, deadlines, and client relationships.
- Strong technical tax knowledge combined with sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Experience reviewing the work of others and developing junior accounting professionals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
