The Voice of Texas Agriculture.
To support the daily operations of the Texas Farm Bureau State Legislative Office in Austin. This role helps keep our office running smoothly and provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the state legislative process. It is well suited for recent college graduates or early career professionals who want exposure to public policy, state government, and advocacy work while building strong professional skills.
OverviewMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY
Office Operations and Support:
- Help manage day-to-day office functions and assist the team with ongoing projects.
- Monitor office supplies and ensure equipment is organized and functioning properly.
- Prepare and format letters, reports, and other documents.
- Maintain organized digital and physical files using modern document management practices.
- Answer phone calls, welcome visitors, and support clear and friendly office communication.
Legislative and Policy Support:
- Assist with research and tracking related to agriculture, state policy, and Texas legislative activity.
- Monitor relevant sources including online news platforms, social media, legislative tracking tools, digital newsletters, and other real-time information channels related to state policy and agriculture.
- Stay informed about ongoing projects, events, and priorities within the State Legislative Office to help coordinate and support the team.
Professional Expectations:
- Communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally with staff, public officials, members, and external partners.
- Complete tasks with accuracy, timeliness, and strong attention to detail.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Two years secretarial experience.
- Type 50 wpm and proficiently operate all office equipment.
- Willing to travel as required.
- Efficient clerical skills, a working knowledge of personal computers including advanced Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Excellent communications skills both written and oral.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to coordinate a number of tasks at the same time.
- Valid Texas driver’s license and driving record at the time of hire which would not place the employee on probation, or disqualify the employee from Certified Fleet Operator Status, under the Company Driving and Safety Policy.
- Use of P.C., telephone, copy machine, fax, and other office equipment over six (6) hours per day.
- Extended periods of sitting and concentration.
- Occasional bending, twisting, crouching, pulling, pushing, lifting, and moving items weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Occasional long, irregular hours.
- Occasional travel by auto or other public transportation.
- Work to be conducted in office environment owned or leased by company.
