TxDOT's Strategic Initiatives and Innovation Divison is searching for a highly motivated intern to join the Innovations Team for the upcoming summer!

TxDOT's Internship Program provides current high school and college students with the chance to gain meaningful, paid, hands‑on experience.

A paid internship is a valuable opportunity to explore what TxDOT offers to the citizens of Texas, expand on the knowledge you've gained in school, and potentially open the door to future job opportunities with the agency. It's no surprise that many students choose to return to TxDOT year after year to rejoin our team.

Internships are scheduled to begin in May 2026 and will run through the summer. Positions may also be evaluated for continuation on a year-round basis, offering a valuable pathway to grow your career with TxDOT.

Job Overview

Performs entry‑level administrative innovation project and conference support work to connect the agency with the future of transportation. Work involves performing a wide range of collaborative support work for innovation projects ranging from emerging technologies, artificial intelligence development, and engineering support. Responsibilities also include assistance with coordinating innovation training academies, website design, and community of practice forums. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Responsibilities
  • Attend in‑person and virtual meetings
  • Assist in maintaining confidential project information and records
  • Assist in performing inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Assist in processing routine documents
  • Maintain files, records, and logs
  • Make copies and distribute as instructed
  • Perform preliminary research on assignments and gather pertinent data
  • Perform routine word processing duties and conduct quality checks of documents created
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School / Entry Summer in recommended high school plan

Conditions:

Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.

Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver’s license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.
