Position: Traffic Data Detection Intern (Intern Support Technician) - TPP Division - Austin TX

TxDOT's Transportation Planning & Programming Division is looking for a Traffic Data Detection Intern for the summer months (May 1 - August 15) based at our state‑of‑the‑art headquarters in South Austin.

Stassney Campus

Essential Duties
  • Assists in performing inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assists in processing routine documents such as site summary reports.
  • Assists with general warehousing duties such as stocking and issuing materials and supplies, maintaining records, and maintaining warehouse areas.
  • Maintains traffic data files, records, and logs using Microsoft Office Suite programs, including Microsoft Access, and ESRI ArcGIS Pro.
  • Performs preliminary research on assignments and gathers pertinent data.
  • Performs routine word processing duties, including populating forms, and conducts quality checks of documents created.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education

High School / Entry Summer in recommended high school plan

Other Conditions
  • Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.
  • Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.

  • Administrative support practices and procedures to include writing, editing and report writing techniques, recording meeting notes, record keeping and records management
  • Preparing correspondence/documents using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation; proofreading and reviewing documents for clarity and consistency

  • Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Maintaining a safe working relationship
  • Follow verbal and written instructions
  • Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Light work:
    Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
  • Sitting – prolonged periods of time
  • Standing – prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion – substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity – work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
