Performs entry-level administrative support work for the Behavioral Traffic Safety Program at the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Work involves assisting with a broad range of administrative and office support function. Employees at this level perform assignments under specific instructions and are subject to frequent supervisory review.
Essential Duties- Answers telephone calls; evaluates requests, responds to inquiries, routes messages, and/or serves as receptionist or front desk support.
- Assists with inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Support general warehousing duties, including stocking and issuing materials maintaining records, and organizing warehouse areas.
- Disseminates information to the public in a professional manner.
- Makes copies and distributes documents as instructed.
- Opens, sorts, and distributes mail.
- Performs preliminary research and gathers relevant data for assignments.
- Performs routine word processing and conducts quality checks of documents.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assists with child passenger safety seat installation
- Assist with traffic safety coalition meetings and related outreach activities.
- Speak and interact with public through outreach activities
- Learn to review project performance reports, reimbursement requests, and invoices to ensure compliance with grant or contract terms, rules, regulations, policies, and established deadlines.
- Assist with the public Information and Education (PI&E) Program by supporting traffic safety campaigns, including local and statewide media events, in coordination with statewide Program Managers and or Traffic Safety Specialist.
- May assist with conducting presentations, developing speeches, and coordinating meetings with community stakeholders
Education:
Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.
- Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.
- Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.
- Experience with safety programs, developing presentations, public speaking, or researching data.
- Basic skill in using computers and applicable software programs and systems.

- Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs

- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
