SOS Program Specialist V – Elections

Job Description – SOS Program Spclst V (JP26-048) – Elections )

Responsibilities
  • Act as both administrative and technical support for election officials across the state, providing troubleshooting, training, and project support.
  • Respond to calls and letters from public and county personnel regarding correct procedures and statutory requirements on voter registration and election administration.
  • Use computer software applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access, for data analysis and reporting.
  • Assist in developing policy and procedure manuals, training materials, and preparing justifications for procedural or policy changes.
  • Review literature, statutes, rules, and policies, and provide technical validation and input on TEAM system changes.
  • Collaborate with program staff to identify trends, resolve technical problems, and improve program area operations.
  • Prepare reports, including summaries of findings, conclusions, recommended revisions, and other working papers for management assessments.
  • Provide training to election officials across the state.
  • Perform related work as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with major coursework relevant to the assignment (preferred); education and experience may substitute for one another.
  • A minimum of two years of clerical, secretarial, or administrative work experience in the public sector or large organizations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with local, state, and federal laws related to the program area.
  • Experience with administration of program systems and/or applications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and compile data with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Skill in using personal computers and software, including developing and maintaining computerized database applications.
  • Ability to create and maintain complex filing and tracking systems.
  • Scheduling and coordination of meetings.
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines.
  • Team‑player skills, working effectively as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.
