Job DescriptionPrimary
Purpose:
Under direct supervision provides reception and clerical assistance for the effective operation of the campus office.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certification
High school diploma or GED (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or Regional Accrediting Agency)
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non‑refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.
Required Experience:
One (1) year clerical experience in office setting
Knowledge/
Skills:
- Proficient keyboarding skills
- Effective organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to operate multi‑line phone system

The office assistant fosters a positive school or organization morale through activities such as the following:
- Greets and directs campus visitors
Communication and Community Relations:
The office assistant promotes a positive tone for school or community relations through activities such as the following:
- Receives and directs incoming calls, takes reliable messages, and routes to appropriate staff.
- Assists parents in checking students in and out of school.
Organization Management:
The office assistant manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:
- Receives, sorts, and distributes mail, messages, documents, and other deliveries
- Assists with receipt and distribution of student materials, including homework requests
- Maintains visitor log and issues visitor passes
- Assists with preparation of materials for mailing, including preparing labels, stuffing envelopes, etc.
- Maintains computerized files using personal computer, including reports, employee roster, and mailing lists
Professional Growth and Development:
The office assistant provides leadership in professional growth and development through activities such as the following:
- Participates in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
Qualities of Effective Office Assistants:
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
- Maintains confidentiality of information.
- Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and reports any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
- Complies with District and Campus policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
- Complies with the standards of conduct set out in Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local) and with any other policies, regulations, and guidelines that impose duties, requirements, or standards.

Equipment:
Multi‑line phone system, computer, printer, copier, calculator, telephone, fax machine, shredder, and other equipment applicable to the position.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Works irregular and extended work hours to include holidays and weekends
- Works with frequent interruptions and maintains emotional control under stress
- Continual sitting
- Requires repetitive hand motions
- May require moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting
- Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination vibration.
- Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces

Salary: $19.18 to $22.98 hourly
