Job Title: Clerk I
Job Summary: The Diet Clerk works a designated eight‑hour shift in the office area at Austin State Supported Living Center (AuSSLC) under the general supervision of the Director of Food Service and the Assistant Director. The role involves routine office tasks, maintaining diet office programs, preparing production sheets, reporting, and assisting with diet‑related materials.
Responsibilities- Prepare production sheets to provide production and control room staff with information necessary for correct food preparation and delivery tags.
- Receive and record requests for diets and food request forms to serve residents efficiently.
- Answer telephone and written inquiries concerning diet and food programs.
- Collect and maintain diet census records.
- Assist in printing tray line tags, diet cards, and other labels required for patient delivery.
- Support daily office management activities of the Food & Nutrition Services Department, including requisitions, office supply orders, and MIMS orders.
- Key in reports, compile census and diet figures, and verify information against existing records.
- Participate in agency disaster response, recovery, or Continuity of Operations activations as needed.
- Observe safety procedures and practices.
- Attend work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy.
- Complete all required training per policy.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Adapt quickly to changing needs and apply learned skills effectively.
- Communicate information clearly and professionally, orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of therapeutic and modified texture diets.
- Knowledge of general food service policies, procedures, tray‑line operations, and office practices.
- Knowledge of computers and computer programs, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Access.
- Ability to perform general arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
- Strong computer skills or ability to learn to a competent level.
- Effective organizational skills and time management.
- Professional communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with food service staff, direct care staff, clients, and others.
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent GED.
Preferred Experience- Experience as a clerk in an office setting.
- Experience with specialized diets or ability to learn specialized diets.
- Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and HHS LEIE.
- Males aged 18‑25 must register with the Selective Service.
- All employees are subject to random drug testing.
- Flexible hours may be required; overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays may be necessary.
