Thinktiv is a strategy consulting firm that partners with private equity sponsors and their software portfolio companies. We help investors and operators align product, market, and commercial strategy to drive value creation across the entire investment lifecycle.
The Role
We're seeking exceptional individuals who want to work at the intersection of commercial and product strategy in private and growth equity. As a Strategy Consultant, you will work directly with private equity sponsor teams and portfolio company executives to define, de-risk, and deliver value creation opportunities in software-driven businesses, leading work streams end to end, from discovery interviews with critical stakeholders and customers, through analysis and insight generation, to recommendations that drive decisions.
Qualified candidates may come from management consulting, buy-side or sell-side M&A, go-to-market strategy within SaaS or tech-enabled businesses, or commercial diligence.
This role requires fluency in product strategy concepts, such as product-market fit, roadmap prioritization, monetization models, and build/buy/partner decisions, within the context of broader commercial and value creation strategies.
AI is a critical dimension of this work, both as a tool to enhance discovery, accelerate synthesis, and elevate the precision of your analysis, and as a strategic lever for clients. You'll help portfolio companies identify where and how AI can be embedded in their platforms to create leverage and reshape competitive dynamics.
What You'll Do
- Lead and contribute to strategy engagements end to end for PE-backed software companies managing project timelines, coordinating work streams, and ensuring deliverables meet quality and deadline expectations
- Identify high-leverage value creation opportunities by connecting customer insights, market signals, and internal business dynamics
- Develop structured, compelling deliverables: narratives, visuals, and frameworks that inform executive decision making and boardroom alignment
- Present directly to PE sponsors, investment committees, and portfolio company leadership
- Use AI tools to accelerate discovery, synthesis, and scenario modeling, and help clients identify where AI can create leverage within their platforms, products, and competitive positioning
Examples of Work streams & Topics You'll Lead:
- Voice of Customer Research: Qualitative interviews with customers, churned accounts, and representative buyers; quantitative surveys to validate hypotheses at scale
- Competitive Ecosystem Analysis: Market landscape, competitive positioning, right-to-win assessment, and channel dynamics
- Market Sizing: TAM/SAM/SOM analysis tied to validated ICPs and product strategy
- ICP Development & Validation: Detailed ideal customer profiles with segmentation and targeting implications
- Pricing Architecture & Packaging: How product structure, bundling, and monetization models align with market positioning, customer segmentation, and go-to-market strategy
- GTM Readiness & Planning: Assessing commercial infrastructure, channel strategy, and go-to-market execution readiness
- Commercial Narrative & Positioning: Value proposition refinement and messaging architecture tied to research findings
- Value Creation Road mapping: Prioritized initiatives that connect directly to growth levers and strategic objectives, including assessment of product-market fit, product scalability, adoption potential, and build/buy/partner considerations where relevant
Who You Are
You're coming from one of these backgrounds:
- Management consulting (MBB, tier 2 management consulting firms, Big 4 strategy, commercial diligence firms, or similar) with experience in commercial strategy, product strategy, or technology sectors
- Private equity (deal teams, operating groups, or portfolio operations)
- Investment banking (M&A or coverage groups focused on software or sponsor-backed transactions)
- SaaS / software go-to-market within mid-market or PE-backed software businesses
Your Experience:
- 6+ years of professional experience, with significant time in one of the above environments
- Strong project management capabilities - a track record of leading complex, multi-workstream engagements with compressed timelines and senior stakeholders while managing project delivery, keeping work streams, teams, and deliverables on track
- Strong analytical capabilities - equally comfortable with quantitative and qualitative synthesis
- Excellent writing and executive level communication; you know how to structure and package a narrative that drives decisions
- The ability to scale up on unfamiliar industries quickly and defend your point of view
- Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve strategic workflows - research, synthesis, scenario modeling, or deliverable development
- Familiarity with product strategy concepts (product-market fit, roadmap prioritization, monetization models) is valued, particularly in SaaS or software-enabled environments
