Job SummaryThe position performs functions in two distinct areas for UTPD:
Information & Intelligence Analysis and Investigation Support & Analysis in support of mitigation of threats and investigation of criminal activity on and around the University of Texas at Austin Campus.
- Organize, analyze, and distribute intelligence/informational bulletins received from outside agency partners. Determine the relevance of learned information as it relates to the area of operations and campus community.
- Generate intelligence/informational bulletins for active cases or perceived threats to the area of operations and campus community.
- Actively and independently conduct searches of open-source information as it relates to trending topics and events that have a potential impact on the area of operations and campus community.
- Support the PD's response to major events, VIP visits, and disruptions to campus activity. Utilize available camera systems, site surveys, and other reconnaissance techniques to identify, monitor, and predict areas vulnerable to criminal offenses.
- Evaluate and assess gathered information to develop meaningful intelligence assessments, free of bias, using those assessments to develop intelligence briefings when assigned.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize data to project crime trends for detectives and patrol officers.
- Conduct open-source intelligence gathering related to active cases, including, but not limited to locating property and identifying suspects. Assist investigators with reviewing videos related to active investigations.
- Review active investigations and identify commonalities, trends, and other relevant investigative leads that may be found in previous similar or related investigations. Analyze data to predict appropriate times and locations for targeted enforcement of trending crimes. Stay abreast of crime trends with our partner agencies and share those trends internally with UTPD. Connect outside agency detectives and investigators with their internal counterparts.
Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, Business, Public Administration, a social science, or related field. Four years of experience in research, analysis, and interpretation of law enforcement data or related field. Master's degree in related field may be substituted for experience up to a maximum of two years. Experience in data analysis, research methods, theory, and statistics, preferably in a law enforcement capacity.
Ability to gain a high level of security clearance. Ability to interpret and explain complex statistical data to a wide variety of constituencies. Ability to produce reports on demand and in a timely fashion. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to take initiative and work independently. Professional demeanor. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Ability to work non-standard hours as required by department.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, concepts, methods, and techniques of crime and Intelligence analysis. Hands-on experience with crime analysis software, including GIS and other mapping software, DBF, CSV, and Excel tables, and database software including Crystal Reports, Oracle, SQL, and Microsoft applications. This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
Salary$65,000+ depending on qualifications
