Payroll Analyst
We are seeking a highly analytical and detail‑driven Payroll Analyst who excels in process accuracy, compliance, and system integrity. This role goes beyond transactional payroll processing—ideal candidates will contribute to controls testing, audit readiness, regulatory interpretation, and cross‑functional compliance initiatives, similar to expectations seen at Bio Marin and Quest Diagnostics where payroll analysts play a key role in internal controls and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Regulatory Compliance
- Execute accurate, timely, multi‑state payroll processing, including wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, taxes, and garnishments, consistent with industry benchmarks.
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local payroll laws, wage‑and‑hour rules, tax regulations, and court‑ordered actions (e.g., garnishments) as required in high‑accountability roles
- Maintain complete compliance documentation for audits, regulatory review, SOX controls, and internal risk assessments.
- Support year‑end tax processes (W‑2s/T4s, reconciliations, taxability testing), applying standards
Internal Controls, Testing & Risk Mitigation
- Perform scheduled payroll system testing, including:
- regression testing
- configuration validation
- tax update testing
- earnings/deductions taxability verification
- Maintain and enhance internal controls over payroll processes, including segregation of duties, dual approvals, and documented review checkpoints, consistent with competitor expectations.
- Manage and validate the timekeeping system, analyzing exceptions, identifying anomalies, and ensuring data integrity
- Draft, update, and maintain SOPs, process maps, and payroll control narratives to support compliance, internal audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner with IT, Finance, and Security on system access reviews, change management protocols, and periodic control testing.
Audit Support & Compliance Partnering
- Act as a primary payroll contact for internal audit, external audit, SOX testing, workers’ compensation…
