Position: Senior Business Process Improvement Consultant (Lean / Six Sigma)

Location: Austin, TX (Hybrid)
Duration: Contract | September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027 (Up to 2,000 hours)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST (Occasional after-hours as needed)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Business Process Improvement professional to support a large-scale operational excellence and digital transformation initiative within a complex enterprise environment.

This role focuses on evaluating current business operations, identifying inefficiencies, and designing optimized processes that improve throughput, reduce waste, and enhance end-user experience. The consultant will work closely with business stakeholders, operations leaders, and technology teams to translate process improvements into requirements for modern, modular, or low-code technology solutions.

This position is ideal for a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt with strong facilitation skills and experience leading enterprise-wide process transformation efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Process Analysis & Optimization

  • Conduct end-to-end assessments of business processes across multiple departments or functional areas
  • Engage stakeholders to identify pain points, bottlenecks, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Document As-Is workflows using industry-standard process modeling tools (e.g., Visio)
  • Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to analyze inefficiencies and root causes
  • Design optimized To-Be processes and develop transition strategies

Data-Driven Improvement

  • Develop recommendations to improve efficiency, quality, cycle time, and customer satisfaction
  • Define operational metrics and KPIs to track performance and ROI
  • Perform gap analysis and root cause analysis (e.g., Fishbone, Pareto)
  • Build KPI and performance monitoring frameworks
  • Translate optimized processes into functional and non-functional requirements
  • Collaborate with product, IT, and architecture teams to ensure solutions align with business needs

Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management

  • Facilitate workshops, working sessions, and process mapping exercises
  • Develop stakeholder engagement strategies and communication plans
  • Support implementation roadmaps and organizational change management efforts
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer as needed
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in business process improvement, process engineering, or operations optimization
  • 5+ years of experience evaluating current-state processes and designing optimized workflows
  • Experience translating business processes into system or software requirements
  • Proven success leading process transformation initiatives in large or complex organizations
  • Proficiency with process modeling tools (e.g., Visio or equivalent)
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience defining operational metrics, workflow optimization, and cross-functional collaboration
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in regulated, public sector, or government environments
  • Familiarity with process automation, workflow tools, or low-code platforms
  • Lean certification or additional continuous improvement credentials
Deliverables & Milestones
  • Stakeholder engagement plan and initial findings (within 30 days)
  • As-Is and To-Be process documentation (Visio format) and gap analysis (within 45 days)
  • Functional and non-functional requirements for technology solution (within 60 days)
  • Prioritized functional improvement plan (within 75 days)
  • KPI dashboard framework (within 80 days)
  • Executive summary and final recommendations presentation (within 90 days)
Work Location & Travel
  • Hybrid role based in Austin, TX
  • Onsite presence required as needed

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt with enterprise transformation experience
  • Strong process mapping and facilitation background
  • Comfortable bridging business operations and technology solutions
  • Experience delivering measurable operational improvements in complex environments
