Position: Senior Statistical Analysis System (SAS) Programmer (Programmer III)

Position Overview

Senior Statistical Analysis System (SAS) Programmer (Programmer III) performs highly complex SAS programming and data analysis in the Performance-Based Monitoring (PBM) unit of the Performance Reporting Division. The role manages data and reporting used to measure the performance of local educational agencies (LEAs) and their students, guiding continuous improvement initiatives. The programmer reports to the PBM unit Director and works with minimal supervision.

Functions
  • Serve as the quality control programmer for assigned RDA indicators, performing complex SAS coding, testing, quality control, and debugging, and completing code revisions and modifications to meet annual changes to monitoring indicators, methodologies, and procedures for the RDA project.
  • Serve as the quality control programmer for assigned PBM Data Validation project(s), performing complex SAS coding, testing, quality control, and debugging, and completing code revisions and modifications to meet annual changes to monitoring indicators, methodologies, and procedures for Data Validation projects.
  • Support programming for research and data analysis projects, acting as a quality control programmer for risk analysis indicators, ad hoc data requests, and research data runs by reviewing SAS code, logs, and outputs as assigned.
  • Provide customer service and technical support for PBM projects to school districts, schools, education service centers, the public, and other stakeholders, coordinating with division communications efforts.
  • Support development of PBM team practices and maintain PBM web pages, including preparing verification packets, reviewing and providing comments on manuals and other technical documentation for accuracy and clarity, and publishing manuals and releasing final products.
Qualifications
  • Minimum:
    Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university.
  • Minimum:
    At least three (3) years of experience in the analysis, design, and implementation of complex computer systems using the SAS programming language.
  • Additional:

    Knowledge of education data systems and data structures.
  • Additional:
    Ability to independently and accurately perform highly complex SAS programming, testing, quality control, and debugging.
  • Additional: SAS programming certification from SAS Institute preferred.
  • Additional:
    Knowledge of maintaining and updating HTML web pages preferred.
  • Additional:
    Demonstrates attention to detail in preparing and reviewing technical documentation.
  • Additional:
    Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, results‑oriented team environment.
  • Additional:
    Strong problem‑solving skills to diagnose data issues or limitations and propose or implement appropriate solutions.
  • Additional:
    Ability to serve as a technical resource to a variety of stakeholders, including management, school districts and educators, and the public.

    Strong time‑management and organizational skills, capable of meeting deadlines across multiple concurrent projects.
